About

The Friends of Stallashaw Moss (FoSM) are a group formed to represent the concerns of the local community with regard to the recent proposals for construction of a WindFarm on Stallashaw Moss near Auchengray in South Lanarkshire.

The objectives of FoSM are:

  • To protect the environment of Stallashaw Moss and its surrounding communities.
  • To oppose the development of a wind farm on Stallashaw Moss.
  • To campaign for statutory protection of Stallashaw Moss.
  • To support appropriate development in the area.
  • To support the campaign for reasoned debate on the selection of sites for renewable energy projects.
  • To work with the 'Tarbrax Community Council' (Working in the interests of Tarbrax, Auchengray and Woolfords) and other such groups and organisations in pursuance of these objectives.

The Executive Committee of FoSM are:

Chairperson: Mr. Don Cole
Don is a Depute Head Teacher of a large secondary school. He says,

"I had been a regular visitor to this area for several years before my wife and I moved here from Edinburgh four years ago. I love the open rolling landscape of this part of South Lanarkshire. It's hard to beat the brilliant skyscapes you get here, particularly at night, as there is no light pollution. The natural history, archaeology and heritage sites around the area give it tremendous potential for tourism. Sadly, this could be seriously compromised by unplanned industrial developments like major windfarms."

Secretary: Mr Ian Aitchison
Ian is a respected member of the Auchengray community having lived here for nearly nine years. Prior to moving to Auchengray Ian worked for the Cumbernauld Development Corporation which was charged with ensuring that industrial developments and businesses where integrated into the community with consideration for the people who lived in the area. Ian says,

"We moved to Auchengray in order to take advantage of the rural lifestyle and the way in which the community is very much built on its farming heritage. I am a keen horse rider and member if the British Horse Society and am concerned that a large windfarm development will strip Auchengray of everything that makes it such a wonderful area to live."
